PowderCam Week In Review

34 inches of Snow in 48 hours at Snowbird.

After an on and off start, Mother Nature has started to bring in the snow. At Snowbird, they received 34" of snow over a 48 hour period giving them an excellent base to allow them to open for the season. There is more snow to come as another storm was brewing. Other mountains that also delayed opening have gotten a decent amount of snow and opened this week. Jackson Hole, Powder Mountain, and Grand Targhee all opened on Dec. 1. Solitude and Telluride opened on Dec. 2. Most all major resorts in the U.S. have opened. Check out our updated listing of open mountains.

There are Advantages to Looking like Santa Claus

Looking like Santa Claus has its perks around Christmas time. Whiteface Mountain is getting into the holiday spirit where anyone dressed in a Santa suit gets a free lift ticket on Sunday, December 11. Ladies can also get a free ticket by dressing up as Mrs. Claus. If you don’t have a suit, you can donate a gently used winter coat or a new toy (valued over $10) and receive 50% off your lift ticket for the day. The event is part of a weekend long Annual Holiday Village Stroll taking place December 9 – 11 where they entire town will be filled with holiday shopping deals, live music, and a tree lighting ceremony. Lake Placid is one of our favorite ski towns and we highly recommend the weekend to anyone.

Whiteface / Lake Placid host World Cup Luge Competition

Also at Lake Placid this weekend (Dec. 1-3) is the Viessmann World Cup Luge Competition in. This event is one of ten World Cups scheduled in the world and will attract people from all over the world. The luge competition consists of four events: men's singles, women's singles, doubles, and the team relay event. You can even cheer on Team USA including Olympians Erin Hamlin and Chris Mazdzer. Check their website for more information.

Still Looking for Christmas Gift Ideas? How about a share in a Ski Mountain?

Many East Coast skiers are familiar with Mad River Glen (Vermont) for being one of the most unique ski mountains in the East. It’s host to some of the most difficult trails in the U.S. and is known for its ungroomed natural trails and a single chair lift. But, many don’t know that it is a co-op owned by numerous individuals. It is America's only skier-owned mountain. These shares are available for sale and can make a great Christmas gift.
