Alta Ski Resort, located to the east of Salt Lake City, Utah, is one of the oldest ski areas in the United States and has been operating since 1939. It features 2,200 acres of skiable terrain across 116 trails. Alta Ski Resort is considered a ski purists mountain. With an average of 560 inches of snowfall each season, skiers can always depend on having an abundance of natural snow and they tend not to groom many runs giving you a natural skiing experience. Did you notice I keep writing about “skiers”? That’s because this is a skiers-only mountain. No snowboarders are allowed in Alta Ski Resort. Some people consider this a good thing.

Alta Ski Resort has a wide variety of terrain for all levels and it is never boring. It has some of the most challenging runs including fan-shaped bowls, steep glades, and low-angle fields along with some breathtaking scenery. Alta Ski Resort is all about the skiing. There are no fancy spas or other amenities that you will see at nearby Snowbird or Park City. But, you will find some of the best skiing in the United States and you will be able to do it at a very reasonable cost. Located about 40 minutes from the airport and near the numerous mountains of the Salt Lake City area, Alta Ski Resort should not be missed whether you are staying near the mountain or at another resort.
