Mt Hotham Alpine Resort is located inside the Australian Alpine National Park in Victoria, Australia about a 4.5 hour drive from Melbourne. Mt Hotham is a decent sized mountain by Australian standards with 65 trails and 791 acres of skiing and snowboarding. Mt Hotham’s has a top elevation of 6,053 ft which provides spectacular scenery making it well worth a visit.
Mt Hotham Alpine Resort is a modern resort that tends to fit better for intermediate and advanced skiers, but it still provides options for all abilities. There is a dedicated learning area for beginners near the Big D Express lift or the Summit lift. Intermediate skiers can find some excellent runs near the Orchard lift. Advanced skiers and riders can find steep chutes and tree glades along with cat skiing. The mountain also has three terrain parks. A ski school and a mix of terrain ranging from easy to very challenging variety makes Mt Hotham a great destination that challenges Perisher in NSW.
Mt Hotham Village sits above tree line on the top of the mountain. This allows you to ski or snowboard straight down in the morning. Also, you’ll get some spectacular views in the morning and evening, if you choose to lodge at Mt Hotham. The village has multiple restaurants, lodging, and nightlife options. You can also do cross country skiing, cat skiing adventures, kids snowmobile rides, sled dog tours and tobogganing. The village also has a free snow bus to get you around the village.
Mt Hotham Tips/Notes:
- Lift lines can be long, especially on weekends.
- Note that there are fees for resort entry and parking. Snow chains are required in certain areas.
- If driving to Mt Hotham, try to get there by 8:10am if you want any decent parking.
- Both Mt Hotham and neighboring Falls Creek are operated by the same lift company and a day, week or season lift ticket can be used at both resorts.
