Mt Hutt Ski Field is located on the Southern Alps of New Zealand about 1.5 hours from Christchurch International Airport and 35 minutes from Methven. It is known as one of New Zealand’s largest ski fields with a long snow season consisting of plentiful natural snow as well as extensive snow making. Mt Hutt Ski Field prides itself on consistently having one of the longest ski seasons in the Southern hemisphere. Add in 902 acres of varied terrain and one of the largest vertical drops in New Zealand at 2,240 feet, and you have a terrific mountain that will please all types of skiers and snowboarders. With an elevation of 6,844 feet at Mt Hutt Ski Field, you’ll also get some spectacular views giving you views of the Pacific Ocean and the Southern Alps.

Mt Hutt Ski Field

Mt Hutt Ski Field has 25 trails with enough varied terrain to please everyone from beginners to advanced riders. Beginners can use a magic carpet and the runs are wide-open and easy for learning. Intermediate skiers/snowboarders will find long sweeping runs and some steeps. Mt Hutt Ski Field also has three world class terrain parks including a FIS certified half pipe. Overall the mountain tends to not be overcrowded and the staff is considered friendly. The only downside to Mt Hutt Ski Field is that the lift system is older and could use updating.

Mt Hutt Ski Field has everything you would need including a cafe, a brasserie, retail clothing and equipment store, ski and snowboard school, a children's center, rental center, repair shop, guest services and first aid. Families can take advantage of their Kids 4 Free deal where every child 10 years and under gets free accommodation and meals in Methven when accompanied by a paying adult, plus free lift passes every day at Mt Hutt Ski Field.
