Mt Lyford Ski Field is a family owned and operated ski resort in South Island, New Zealand. It is approximately 2 hours north of Christchurch. It was one of the first lifted ski areas in Kiwiland. The amenities at Mt Lyford Ski Field are very basic, but with a vertical drop of 1,476 feet and Mount Terako providing some of the best views in New Zealand, this place is a bit of a hidden gem considering how small the crowds are.

It is possible that some people will find the drive up to Mt Lyford Ski Field a little intimidating. The road is long, winding, and pretty steep. But, in our opinion, that’s part of the adventure. Mt Lyford Ski Field has terrain for all levels including a good amount of beginner terrain, intermediate slopes, a number of terrain park features. The lift system consists of a T-bar, poma lift, 2 platters, and 2 rope tows. Also, the location of Mt Lyford Ski Field puts it in an ideal position for large snow storms.

Mt Lyford Ski Field has no accommodations on the hill. There are only basic facilities on the mountain including a cafe, day lodge, rental shop, ski school, heli-skiing, and skidoo hire. You will find Mt Lyford Ski Field cheap compared to other places in New Zealand.
