Porters Ski Field, formally known as Porter Heights, is a small ski area located on New Zealand’s South Island on the southern end of the Craigieburn Range and approximately a 2 hour drive from Christchurch. Originally a club ski field, since being purchased numerous improvements have taken place. But, Porters Ski Field still has the friendly personal touch that club ski fields are known for. The ski area is small with 568 acres of terrain and 21 named trails, and the mountain is inexpensive compared to other resorts making it a great place for beginners. But, Porters Ski Field also boasts a vertical drop of 2,224 feet and an elevation of 6,496 feet giving some challenging terrain and some great views of the Southern Alps and Mt. Cook. The mountain is also known for having more open days than other resorts.

Porters Ski Field has varied terrain for all levels of snowboarders and skiers. Beginners can learn on wide-open groomed runs and a magic carpet. With the steep vertical drop, more advance riders will find plenty of challenging terrain along with some off-piste adventures. The lift system consists of a chair, 3 T-bars, a platter, and a magic carpet. They also have modern grooming equipment and snowmaking facilities. Note that Porters Ski Field offers a snow guarantee. If you’re not happy with the conditions by 10:30am (or 1:30pm on an afternoon ticket), Porters Ski Field will give you a voucher for another lift ticket on another day.

Porters Ski Field was originally operated by a ski club and was formally known as Porter Heights. In 2007, the name was changed after being purchased by a company. Since then, the company has made numerous investments into improving Porters Ski Field modernizing the facilities. This includes a new day lodge with a café, a shop, upgrading the lift system, and a ski rental area. The resort also has shuttle services, ski and snowboard school, and ski club. Porters Ski Field also has an extensive amount of snow making equipment and grooming. There is no on-mountain lodging available. There is a club-run lodge with 42 beds on the mountain's access road or you can stay at Flockhill Lodge near Castlehill or in Springfield.
