Located in northern Montana near the Canadian border, Whitefish Ski Resort (formally known as Big Mountain) offers skiers and riders a mountain that is uncrowded, beautiful and affordable. Rising above the town of Whitefish next to Glacier National Park, Whitefish Ski Resort gives its guests a friendly laid back vibe and a mountain with a variety of terrain and virtually no lift lines. With an average of more than 300 inches of snow annually and 3,000 acres of bowls, chutes, and glades, Whitefish Ski Resort ranks as one of the best mountains in the North America.
Whitefish Ski Resort is large, has diverse terrain, no crowds, and a cool little ski town. But, the thing that really makes Whitefish Ski Resort special are the jaw dropping views of Glacier National Park and the surrounding area. The only complaint is that with the lake-effect fog, the hill does get caught in the clouds often leaving you without the view. Still, Whitefish Ski Resort is an excellent mountain that gets tons of snow and has an excellent terrain all on a well laid out lift system.
Whitefish Ski Resort doesn't have a super close airport and the fares to get there can get pricy. Calgary Canada is about a 5 hour drive to the north. So the tourists are at a minimum and you will usually find people who took the train or who live nearby. But, you will never a wait for a lift at Whitefish Ski Resort and the prices for everything (lift tickets, food, rentals) are way below Colorado and Utah. The town of Whitefish has good restaurants and bars and a world class craft brew pub.
